Virginia Tech 18 - West Virginia 21

The U.S. Army's Golden Knights parachute team dropped into Lane Stadium/Worsham Field to help kick off the annual border war between Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

The Hokies were called for roughing the kicker on WVU's first possession of the game, changing the tone of the game early.

Later in the first quarter, Lee Suggs scored on a 28-yard run, giving Tech a 7-0 lead and setting the NCAA record for consecutive games scoring a touchdown at 24.

During the quarter break, former great Hokie defensive end Cornell Brown had his jersey retired and presented to him by Coach Frank Beamer.

Ernest Wilford blocked a Mountaineer punt in the second quarter to give Tech good field position, starting a drive on the 15-yard line.

The Hokies had to settle for a Carter Warley field goal on that possession, and trailed WVU 14-10 going into the half.
