Virginia Tech 28 - Pittsburgh 31

A crowd of fans gathered outside the Merryman Center Friday morning to send off the Hokies as they boarded buses en route to the Roanoke Regional Airport.

The Hokies were flying sky-high heading to Pittsburgh coming off their big win over No. 2 Miami at home the previous Saturday.

Fifth-ranked Tech was making its final visit to Pittsburgh as a member of the BIG EAST Conference and gearing up to face the 25th-ranked Panthers.

The Hokies check out Heinz Field, home of University of Pittsburgh football as well as the NFL's Steelers.

A sign of the magnitude of the contest was the fact that ESPN's College GameDay was broadcasting Saturday morning from outside Heinz Field.

The Hokie fans on hand at the show more than held their own against the homestanding Panther fans.

The Hokie Nation overflowed the posh Pittsburgh Marriott Center City's lobby to cheer the team on as Tech headed to Heinz Field for the ESPN telecast.
