Virginia Tech 17 - Wake Forest 10

For the first ACC football road trip in Virginia Tech history, the Hokies loaded buses in the new turnout outside of Cassell Coliseum on a beautiful fall Friday afternoon bound for Wake Forest.

Leaving the mountains of Southwest Virginia behind, the two-hour drive descended through Fancy Gap toward the Piedmont below and Tobacco Road.

The Hokies were eager to prove themselves on what really amounted to their first road game of the season.

The Hokies may have been wearing road jerseys and at a visiting stadium, but the crowd at Groves Stadium seemed about a 50-50 split between Tech and Wake Forest fans.

Bryan Randall marched the Hokies down the field and tossed a touchdown pass on Tech's first possession.

Tight end Jeff King celebrates the 5-yard TD reception that put the Hokies up 7-0 early.
