Hughes says: “Buddy will be competing for a position in a very crowded outfield. He also has the flexibility of playing first base. We will also look for him to give us some innings on the mound during the course of the season out of the bullpen. He’s shown glimpses of a player who can hit for average and power and steal some bases. He’s just got to be able to do that consistently. Hopefully, he can grow this year to be the player we recruited, which is a player who can run and hit for average with low strikeouts and some power potential.”
2010: Made his season debut in game one at CSU, going 0-for-2 ... Doubled in a pinch-hit appearance in game three ... Had a breakout series against Long Island, going 4-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBIs ... Delivered a solo pinch-hit home run in game three ... Went a career-best 4-for-5 on March 9 against Bryant, doubling once and scoring twice ... Went 4-for-8 in two games played vs. Maryland, driving in two and scoring twice ... Went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs vs. Columbia, falling a triple short of the cycle ... Added a single and two runs scored in game one with Rider ... 2009: Played in 32 games, starting 24 at either first, left or DH … Batted .234 and did not commit an error all season … Went 2-for-6 with three runs scored in his collegiate debut against UNC Asheville in the season opener … Missed seven games early on with a strained hamstring … Hit his first home run in a 2-for-3 effort at Radford on March 10 … Went 2-for-4 in the second game with No. 1 UNC and 3-for-4 with three RBIs and his first double in the first game with VMI … Singled in game two with Wake Forest … Went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in game two at Maryland … Added a hit, a run and his first stolen base in game three … Tied a career high with three hits in game three with Clemson … Had a two-run double in game two at Miami … Went 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two at Florida State … Hit a three-run homer at Davidson in the ninth inning, but it was erased from ever happening after lightning struck and the game was called after eight official innings … Tripled and scored in game one with Delaware State.
2008: Redshirted to recover from shoulder (labrum) surgery that he had in December of 2007.
High School: Earned four letters for Coach Mike Lockhart at Notre Dame Academy, helping the team to three consecutive Virginia Independent School state titles … Was twice named a first-team all-state performer and was placed on the All-Extra second team by The Washington Post as a senior, in addition to receiving an All-Met honorable mention … In 2007, batted .472 with six homers, 14 doubles and 48 RBIs, while also going 4-1 as a pitcher with three saves, 38 strikeouts and a 1.89 ERA … As a junior, hit .364 with four homers and 38 RBIs, including a 5-1 record on the mound with a 2.02 ERA, two saves and 42 strikeouts … Was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and earned the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award.
