Tugwell Honored By BIG EAST
Tech second baseman named player of the week

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech second baseman Marc Tugwell has been named the BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week for his performances in Tech's last five games.

Tugwell, a senior from Springfield, Va., batted .522 last week to help the Hokies win three of their five outings. He posted 12 hits in 23 at bats, driving in seven runs and scoring six. Tugwell had two or more hits in each game. He went 8-for-14 (.571) during a three-game series with Kent State.

For the season, Tugwell leads the Hokies in hitting with a .514 batting average. He also tops the team in hits (19), runs scored (8) and stolen bases (4) and is second in RBIs (10). He has hit safely in all nine games this season and has had seven multiple-hit games, including six in a row.
