O'Brien Named to Freshman All-America Team
First baseman was Tech's top hitter in 2004

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech first baseman Sean O'Brien has been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America baseball team chosen by Collegiate Baseball. O'Brien was one of five first basemen selected for the team.

The 6-1, 195-pound Tech freshman from Chappaqua, N.Y., won first-team All-BIG EAST Conference honors in his first season with the Hokies. O'Brien led Tech in batting (.372), home runs (6), runs batted in (45), multiple-hit games (13), slugging percentage (.541) and on-base percentage (.471) during the 2004 season. He drew 31 walks, while striking out just 16 times in 172 at bats.

O'Brien was the first freshman to lead Tech in RBIs since Trey McCoy in 1986. He played in 50 of the Hokies' 56 games, starting 48. O'Brien batted .409 with runners in scoring position and had a .714 average with the bases loaded.
