BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech and UNC Charlotte are hoping the third time will be the charm after seeing their scheduled baseball game at Kannapolis, N.C., pushed back to Thursday at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium and has now been postponed twice due to wet playing conditions.
The Charlotte game, which would be the season opener for Tech under the direction of new head coach Pete Hughes and his staff, now begins a four-game road trip for the Hokies. Following Thursday's game with the 49ers, Tech will travel to Conway, S.C., for the IMICHotels.com INN-vitational, Feb. 16-18, on the campus of Coastal Carolina. The Hokies are scheduled to face Old Dominion on Friday, followed by games with Pittsburgh on Saturday and Coastal on Sunday.
Thursday's game with Charlotte is scheduled to be played at the home of the Chicago White Sox Class A affiliate Kannapolis Intimidators of the South Atlantic League. Charlotte, which is renovating its on-campus baseball field, carries a 3-1 record into Thursday's game.
