Thomas became Tech's first head softball coach when he was hired on July 7, 1995. In that time, he has recorded over 300 wins and has averaged nearly 35 wins per season. While success on the field is important, Thomas also places a strong emphasis on success in the classroom. In eight seasons, he has had three players earn Academic All-America honors. Respected by many, Thomas has been named the Virginia State Coach of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors three times (1999, 2000 & 2002). In that time, he has had over a dozen different players named to the all-state team, including four in five of the past six seasons.
