Harrelson Wins Silver at the Pan-American Games
Tech Assistant Coach is the top U.S. finisher in the 1,500 meters

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Virginia Tech assistant track coach Mary Jayne Harrelson won the silver medal in the 1,500 meters at the prestigious Pan-American Games last night, Aug. 7. Harrelson was the top U.S. finisher with a time of 4:09.72, finishing just off of Cuban Adriann Munoz's winning pace of 4:09.57.
Also competing in the games was Tech assistant throws coach Cleopatra Borel. Borel, representing Trinidad and Tobago in the shot put, finished sixth with a throw of 56-6½. Both athletes will continue to compete through the remainder of the summer as they attempt to earn a berth in the World Championships, Aug. 22-31 in Paris, France.
