Cross Country Teams Place First at Hokie Invitational
Frazier, Overbeeke lead the way for Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams were both victorious in the Hokie Invitational, the second home meet of the season.
The Tech men, who had four runners place in the top seven, completed the meet with 29 points. They were followed in the standings by Liberty (40) and Virginia Commonwealth (65). The Hokie women posted a final score of 18, behind the strength of six top-ten finishes. Liberty came in second with 48 points and Milligan College tallied 69 points.
The men were led by junior Casey Frazier (Woodbridge, Va.), who finished in third place. He was followed by sophomores Michael Lawson (Foster, R.I.) and David Atkiss (Hatfield, Pa.) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Pittsburgh transfer Darrell Curtis (Carlisle, Pa.) rounded out the Hokies' top four, finishing seventh. Liberty's Dan Rabe took first place overall.
Marlies Overbeeke (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) was again the top performer for the Hokie women, picking up her second first-place finish. Senior Stacey Vidt (Allison Park, Pa.) came in second for Tech, followed by sophomore Jessica Morris (Coatesville, Pa.) in third. Also placing in the top ten for Tech were junior Kristy VanCour (Evans Mills, N.Y.), who finished fifth, and freshmen Maureen Hagan (Alexandria, Va.) and Katie Danyko (Sterling Heights, Mich.), who came in sixth and eighth, respectively.
Both the men's and women's races were run on new courses, designed by Tech head coach Ben Thomas. The men now cover a new distance of 7.53k, with the women running 4.6k.
The Hokies return to action on Friday, Oct. 4, as they travel to Boone, N.C., to compete in the Appalachian State Invitational.
