Hokies run away with VT Invite crowns
Women feature meet's top seven finishers, men place five in top six

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's and women's cross country teams hosted the VT College Invite Saturday, and both squads breezed their way to first-place finishes for the second time in as many weeks.

The women captured the 4k race in a total time of 1:19:51, and earned the lowest-possible point total (15) behind the top seven finishers in the contest. King College took second with 56 points and a 1:31:22 mark, while Lynchburg College placed third with 74 points and a time of 1:34:38.

Freshman Fiona Gentles, running in her first career meet, took first individually by nearly a full minute with a time of 15:04. Following her in succession were freshman Lisa MacPherson (15:56), freshman Jamie Nichols (16:08), senior Jenn Dietz (16:17), sophomore Erin Reddan (16:26), senior Sam Ference (16:29) and sophomore Heather Fisher (16:57). Freshman Sam DeAlto rounded out the Tech finishers in ninth-place with a time of 17:31.

In the men's 6k race, the Hokies claimed top honors with 18 points on a 1:43:45 team tally. Lynchburg (1:49:51) eked out second place over King (1:50:26), 53-56.

Tech senior Christian Barlow won his second-career individual title with a time of 20:28. Teammate Kyle Guglielmo finished six seconds behind to take runner-up honors. Places three, four and five went to Hokies Chris Padilla (20:47), Bryan McVey (20:57) and Bryan Markley (20:59), respectively. Duncan Vick rounded out the Tech runners in 15th with a time of 22:06.

The Hokies have three weeks until their next meet, when they will travel to Williamsburg to take part in the William & Mary Invitational on Sept. 30.
