Equipment Manager for a Day


THE EXPERIENCE

YOU AND A FRIEND will have a very unique game day experience as you both “Go to Work with the Hokies.” Your day will be similar to that of the members of the Virginia Tech Football Equipment Staff. Throughout this entire experience, you will be accompanied by Lester Karlin, Director of Equipment or one of his Equipment Staff Graduate Assistants.

All proceeds will go towards establishing an endowment in the name of longtime Equipment Manager - Lester Karlin.

Your Gameday Experience will include:

  • Start Time: Approximately 3.5 hours before kickoff
  • Brief introduction to the role of our Equipment Department
  • Get outfitted in your Official Virginia Tech Sideline Apparel
  • Tour of our Equipment Facilities and opportunity to try on a Hokies Helmet and Jersey
  • Assist in setting up the Hokies Locker Room including putting out players’ Game Jerseys and Pants along with putting the final shine on the Helmets 
  • Take an all access tour of the Virginia Tech Football facilities providing peaks inside Coach Beamer’s and the Assistant Coaches Offices, the Offensive and Defensive Meeting Rooms, Weight Room, Training Room, Study Lounge and a chance to hang out in the Players’ Lounge
  • Accompany the Graduate Assistants as we greet the team when they arrive to the facility and assist the Equipment Staff in handling any equipment needs the players or coaches may have
  • Take a picture with Coach Beamer in front of the Virginia Tech “Time to go to Work” mural while holding the prestigious VT Lunch Pail. This commemorative photo will be later framed and presented to you as a thank you for “Going to Work with the Hokies”
  • Head down to Lane Stadium and roam Worsham Field during pregame warm-up’s assisting our staff as needed
  • Head back to the Locker Room with the team and listen in as Coach Beamer gives his pregame speech
  • Make the walk to the stadium and follow the team as they run onto Worsham Field during one of the most exciting entrances in College Football
  • Accompany the Equipment Staff on the sideline throughout the game and cheer on the Hokies
  • Head into the Locker Room after the game to see the “Game Balls” awarded

1 hour 55 minutesAssist Chad in handling any equipment needs the Players or Coaches have
43 minutesHead down to Lane Stadium with Chad and Drew / Roam the Field during Pregame Warm-up’s
25 minutesHead back up to Locker Room with Chad or Drew
8 minutesListen in as Coaches Address the Players for the final time before Kickoff
4 minutesFollow the team down to the Lane Stadium Tunnel and onto the Field with Drew, Chad and Lester
Game TimeRoam the Sideline with Chad or Drew throughout the Game
Half TimeFollow the Team into the Halftime Locker Room
Half TimeWatch the Marching Band and Halftime Festivities from the Hokies Bench
Second HalfRoam the Sideline with Chad or Drew
Post-GameAccompany Chad or Drew and the Team in the Lane Stadium Locker Room to see the Presentation of the Game Balls
30 Minutes After the GameHead back to the Merryman Athletic Center with Chad or Drew / Wrap up the Experience

When I read the release about the opportunity to be a VT Equipment Manager For a Day I knew that I had to be a part of it. My imagination ran wild as to what the experience would be and let me tell you it exceeded all expectations. Starting with a complete tour of the facilities to being with the players in the locker room before and after the game...being on the sideline literally right next to the coaches and team AND running out of the tunnel to Enter Sandman ... it is a day I will never forget. I now have a much better understanding of what a game day looks like for the team. All I can say is that for any Hokie super fan this is the ultimate experience and one that will take you on a journey of not just being a fan but feeling like a part of the team. Both participants of this experience must be over the age of 18 years old in order to be on the sideline during the game.
