Traffic Patterns
Before The Game

To reach the campus from Interstate 81 (southbound and northbound):

    1. Take Exit 118 to reach the exit ramps for all three of the exits at this location. There is only one exit ramp serving the exits; missing the ramp means a trip north to Exit 128 or south to Exit 114 to turn around.
    2. Take Exit 118B onto U.S. 460 West. This exit connects directly to the Christiansburg Bypass. Follow the signs for Blacksburg/Virginia Tech. The U.S. 460 bypass between Blacksburg and Christiansburg is a limited-access highway from I-81 to the campus entrance at Southgate Drive.
    3. Watch signs carefully for routes and directions. From the bypass, Bus. U.S. 460 -- South Main Street, exits to the right (take South Main Street as one route to reach downtown Blacksburg). Stay on U.S. 460 West, signed for "Virginia Tech, Bluefield" to continue directly to the university.
    4. Drive for 2.5 miles on U.S. 460 to the traffic light at VA 314, Southgate Drive. Turn right onto Southgate Drive. There is a campus map a quarter-mile on the right and the Visitor Information Center is a half-mile from U.S. 460 on the right.
    5. To reach downtown Blacksburg, continue on U.S. 460 for about a mile to the Prices Fork Road exit for "Downtown." At the second traffic light on Prices Fork Road is access to campus via a right turn onto West Campus Drive. Prices Fork Road ends at North Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street to reach downtown proper.

To reach the campus from Interstate 77 (northbound):

    1. Take exit 32 onto I-81 North. Continue for approximately 29 miles and follow the directions above for Interstate 81 northbound.

To reach the campus from Interstate 77/West Virginia Turnpike (southbound):

    1. In West Virginia, take exit 9, "U.S. 460-Princeton/Pearisburg, VA." Turn left at the stoplight at the end of the ramp onto U.S. 460 East.
    2. Continue on U.S. 460 East for approximately 47.6 miles (11.6 in W.Va., 36 in Virginia) to the traffic light at VA 314, Southgate Drive. Turn left onto Southgate Drive. There is a campus map a quarter-mile on the right and the Visitor Information Center is a half-mile from U.S. 460 on the right.
    3. To reach downtown Blacksburg, take the Toms Creek Road exit on U.S. 460 (two miles from the North Main Street turn-off). At the end of the ramp, turn left onto Toms Creek Road and travel for about one mile. The second traffic light is at the intersection with Prices Fork Road. Go straight to access campus via Stanger Street. Turn right and go to the next light, then turn left to access campus via West Campus Drive. Turn left onto Prices Fork Road, which ends at North Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street to reach downtown proper.

Approximately two hours before the game starts, traffic on Washington St, Southgate Dr, and Spring Rd may become one-way toward Lane Stadium. Traffic on Duck Pond Dr may also become one-way toward Lane Stadium from Southgate Dr to Washington St. After the game, directions will reverse until the traffic flow returns to normal.

Spring Road will close to traffic three hours before gametime.

Police officers will be at most town intersections to facilitate the flow of traffic.

COME EARLY - Please pay close attention to signs on specified routes.

Please be reminded - NO alcohol, banners, strollers or umbrellas are allowed in Lane Stadium. ALL fans MUST have a ticket, regardless of age.

After The Game
    Take your time
All lanes of West Campus Drive will be ONE WAY to Prices Fork Road
All lanes of Southgate Drive West of Parking Lot 2 will be ONE WAY to US 460 Bypass
    Please be patient

Football Trippers and Shuttles begin 2-1/2 hours prior to kickoff and run for 2 hours after each game. Regular fixed-route service is suspended for 2 hours after each game so that those buses can be used to assist departing fans.

Please consult the map located below to find out where you can find your route or shuttle after the game.
The Smart Way
Roanoke game day shuttle service on the Smart Way Bus will be provided again this year by Valley Metro running from Roanoke to Squires Student Center starting 4 hours before kick-off and running at 30 minute intervals. The service will continue for 2 hours after the end of the game. For more details call 800-388-7005 or www.smartwaybus.com.

Before the game, all BT Football Trippers and Parking Lot Shuttles will drop-off all passengers in front of Cassell Coliseum.

After the game, all buses will load on Washington Street (next to Cassell Coliseum) for their outbound runs.

Please note that several thousand fans will be riding to campus before the start of the game and leaving campus after the finale. We ask that everyone be a patient, due to heavy pedestrian/vehicular traffic and large passenger loads, delays should be expected. Route Trippers will run until the fan's demands have been met.

Inside Stadium - Handicap Cart Services

The handicap cart service is provided as a COURTESY by the Virginia Tech Athletics Department.

Carts are not allowed to leave the stadium area, this includes adjacent parking lots.

The carts will be allowed to bring fans to the portal BEFORE the game. However, due to the crowd and limited walking space, the carts will NOT be picking up at portals. We will have 4 pick up spots post game, one in each corner of the stadium. The carts will be transporting fans between the south and north ends of the stadium.

Please be sure to make prior arrangements to meet the rest of your party in the stadium or parking area.
