Before The Game:
If you are coming to Blacksburg from the North:
NOTE: NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN ON US 460 FROM I-81
| |
 |
New 460 Bypass

| |
|
The new Route 460 Bypass in the New River Valley is open to traffic. The Virginia Department of Transportation opened the new bypass to westbound traffic. VDOT opened the eastbound direction in the early morning hours just after midnight on Saturday, Aug. 24.
(Click on the thumbnail image to the right for a larger map of the project and new routes.)
The new road will allow motorists to travel between Interstate 81 and Blacksburg without driving through Christiansburg on Route 460 Business or encountering any traffic signals. Opening the new Route 460 Bypass will cause major traffic changes in the New River Valley. Signs will be in place advising motorists of the traffic changes.
Westbound Route 460 Bypass traffic traveling from I-81 will split as it approaches the Yellow Sulphur Road overpass. The right ramp will continue to take traffic onto westbound Route 460 Business in Christiansburg. The newly opened left ramp will route traffic onto the new bypass, allowing motorists to proceed directly to Blacksburg. As westbound motorists approach Blacksburg, they can take an exit ramp that leads to Industrial Drive or South Main Street, or they can continue on the bypass toward Southgate Drive and Virginia Tech.
Eastbound Route 460 Bypass traffic traveling from Southgate Drive and Virginia Tech can take the first exit ramp leading to eastbound Route 460 Business (South Main Street) or continue on the new bypass. From the new bypass, eastbound traffic can exit at Peppers Ferry Road or proceed to I-81.
From downtown Blacksburg, eastbound motorists traveling toward I-81 on South Main Street will be able to access the new bypass by turning right onto Industrial Drive at the traffic signal and then taking an immediate left at the next signal onto Ramble Road. Eastbound bypass traffic can exit at Peppers Ferry Road or proceed to I-81.
From the Corporate Research Center or Blacksburg Airport, motorists can use a new ramp off Ramble Road to access the new bypass and travel east toward I-81.
From Peppers Ferry Road, motorists can access the new bypass to travel east toward I-81 or west toward downtown Blacksburg. Peppers Ferry Road traffic will be routed onto a new overpass with eastbound bypass traffic using the right ramp before the overpass. Westbound traffic will use the right ramp just after crossing the overpass.
Additional interchange ramps will open later this year. Questions about the new Route 460 Bypass can be directed to the Virginia Department of Transportation's Christiansburg Residency Office at (540) 381-7200.
If you are coming to Blacksburg from the South:
- Take EXIT 98 off I-81 onto Route 100 North at Dublin
- Turn right to Route 11 North, travel through Dublin
- Travel to Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road) and Turn Left at traffic signal
- Continue on Route 114 to Prices Fork Road and Turn Left at traffic signal
- Continue on Prices Fork Road and enter campus by West Campus Drive

Parking Map
Blacksburg Transit will operate as scheduled on game days and will add additional route buses (Trippers) as needed. All home games will be fare-free for BT. A new option this year is off-campus public parking at three locations in the town of Blacksburg. BT Public Parking Shuttles will run to the stadium starting two hours before game time from the parking lot by Blacksburg High School (P1) and from the new Blacksburg Middle School (P2) (off Prices Fork Rd) at 15 minutes intervals. They will continue to run for four hours after the game. Public parking will also be available at the old Blacksburg Middle School (on Main St) and patrons can walk to the stadium. There is a $5 charge for parking in these community lots.
Before the game, all BT Football Trippers and Parking Lot Shuttles will drop-off all passengers in front of Cassell Coliseum.
After the game, all buses will load on Spring Street (next to Lane Stadium) for their first outbound run. Buses will then load in front of Cassell Coliseum for all remaining outbound runs.
Please note that several thousand fans will be riding to campus before the start of the game and leaving campus after the finale. We ask that everyone be a patient, due to heavy pedestrian/vehicular traffic and large passenger loads, delays should be expected. Route Trippers will run until the fan's demands have been met.
NOTE: All home game days will be fare-free for BT riders.

Paratransit Circulators will be available for those with special needs. These circulators will be located in specified areas of the B-Lot and will run on demand. Vehicles and stop locations in the B-Lot and at the south side of Lane Stadium will be marked with handicap signs.

Inside Stadium - Handicap Cart Services
The handicap cart service is provided as a COURTESY by the Virginia Tech Athletics Department.
The cart is not allowed to leave the stadium area, this includes adjacent parking lots. Carts will be allowed to leave the stadium to designated drop-off areas ONLY.
The carts will be allowed to bring fans to the portal BEFORE the game. However, due to the crowd and limited walking space, the carts will NOT be picking up at portals. We will have 4 pick up spots post game, one in each corner of the stadium. The carts will be transporting fans between the south and north ends of the stadium.
Please be sure to make prior arrangements to meet the rest of your party in the stadium or parking area.
