2012: Played in all 13 games, all coming as the holder for extra points and field goals … Appeared in five plays on special teams against Georgia Tech … Saw time on special teams against Austin Peay and at Pittsburgh … Was in on nine special teams plays against Bowling Green … Contributed on seven special teams plays against Duke and three at Clemson … Played four special teams plays at Miami and six against Florida State … Was in on six plays at Boston College … Saw action on 11 special teams plays against Virginia … Appeared on special teams, holding for the overtime, game-winning field goal against Rutgers in the Russell Athletic Bowl … Held for the game-winning kicks against Georgia Tech, Virginia and Rutgers.
2011: Served as the primary holder for extra points and field goals, holding in every game for a total of 77 snaps on the season ... Saved two points with a tackle on a blocked extra point return at Marshall … Connected on a touchdown pass in four of Tech’s five spring scrimmages … Completed 21 of 43 attempts for 260 yards … Was intercepted twice.
2010: Worked on the scout team while redshirting in the fall … Had a 340-pound front squat during the off-season and improved on all four major lifts … Threw a 69-yard TD pass to Randall Dunn in the first full scrimmage of the spring … Was 4-for-8 passing for 96 yards in that scrimmage … Was 7 of 16 for 127 yards, one TD and one interception during scrimmage work … Hit 2 of 4 passes for 12 yards in the Maroon-White game and added a 13-yard run … Also worked as the holder for field goals and PATs … Named to the 2010-11 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2009: Entered school in January as a greyshirt … Went through the off-season program … Completed 3 of 4 passes in limited scrimmage duty during the spring for 18 yards … Went 4-for-7 passing the in the spring Maroon-White game for 50 yards, including a 26-yard completion to Xavier Boyce.
High School: Became the first four-year starter at quarterback for Blacksburg High and finished as the school’s all-time leading passer … Played for Coach Dave Crist … Threw for over 1,700 yards as a senior in 2008 and added another 650 yards and five touchdowns rushing … Tossed four TD passes and ran for another score in a game against Northside … Was a four-time all-district pick and was all-state his senior year … Lettered four years in baseball, winning all-district honors all four seasons and setting school season and career records for stolen bases … A three-year all-state honoree in track.
