Taylor strengthens case for Butkus
November 5, 2001

Even though the Hokies struggled in a 38-7 loss to Pittsburgh, Ben Taylor, Tech's starting backer, played his usual stellar game. In fact, it may have been the best game of his career.

The senior from Bellaire, Ohio, made another strong push for the Butkus Award by recording a career-high 17 tackles. He had nine solo tackles, including one for a loss, and six assists, and then he added another solo tackle and an assist on special teams. Also, he recorded a sack and that now gives him 2 1/2 on the season.

Taylor played 72 snaps from scrimmage and 18 on special teams. He graded out higher than any other defensive player.

On the season, Taylor now leads the team with 82 tackles, 48 of the solo variety and 34 assists.
