Royal Undergoes Emergency Surgery
Receiver questionable for spring ball
January 27, 2005

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech wide receiver Eddie Royal underwent emergency surgery early Thursday morning by Dr. Marc Siegel at Montgomery Regional Hospital. The surgery was to relieve abnormal compartment pressures in his left lower leg.

According to head athletic trainer Mike Goforth, this condition is usually caused by excess swelling in one of the compartments due to exertion or a traumatic blow to the lower leg.

The prognosis is good and Royal, who started 11 games last year as a true freshman, will be listed as questionable for spring workouts. Goforth fully anticipates him to be 100 percent for the start of fall practices.
