Burnell fastest on timing day
February 21, 2002

Keith Burnell recorded the fastest time in the 40-yard dash on Tech's timing day, unofficially running a 4.21, which would set the school record if it stands, breaking the 4.23 recorded by Damien Russell. Tech's assistant AD for athletic performance, Mike Gentry, and his staff were calculating the results of both the 40 times and the shuttle run at the time this scoop was being posted (7 p.m.). Official results will be available on Friday.

Regardless, Burnell blew away the rest of the team in the 40, which was held on Tech's Mondo-surfaced indoor track at Rector Fieldhouse. Burnell ran the 40 three times, being timed by six members of Tech's coaching staff each time. His slowest recorded 40 time was a 4.38.

Unofficially, DeAngelo Hall was second in the 40, running a 4.31. Vincent Fuller came in third, running a 4.33, but again, that is unofficially.

A complete analysis of the testing results will be available in hokiesports.com the newspaper next week.
