Virginia Tech Releases 2004 Football Schedule
Seven home games highlight slate
A new conference schedule, seven home games, two Thursday night contests and a preseason game against the defending nation champion highlight the 2004 Virginia Tech football schedule, which was released Monday by the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Virginia Tech Athletics Department.

The Hokies will open their 2004 campaign on Aug. 28 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md., against Southern Cal, the defending Associated Press national champion, in the Black Coaches Association Classic. USC is one of seven teams on Tech's schedule that went to a bowl game last year with six of those teams winning their game.

As Virginia Tech enters its first year in the ACC, it will play seven new conference opponents. Duke, Maryland, N.C. State and the University of Virginia will all visit Lane Stadium/Worsham Field as Tech's new ACC brethren. Tech will take to the road for league action against Miami, North Carolina, Wake Forest and a Thursday night game at Georgia Tech.

Tech will play three other non-conference games, all being played in Blacksburg. The Hokies will play host to Western Michigan on Sept. 11, West Virginia on Oct. 2 and Florida A&M on Oct. 16.

Three open dates will occupy the schedule, coming on Sept. 4, Oct. 23 and Nov. 13. Game times and additional television appearances will be announced as the games get closer.
