Maroon-White Football Game On Saturday
Hokies conclude spring practice with 2 p.m. game

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Quarterback candidates Grant Noel and Jason Davis will be at the helms of two evenly-divided teams when Virginia Tech stages its annual Maroon-White spring football game Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field. There will be no admission charge for the 2 p.m. game.

Noel, a redshirt junior, will handle the quarterbacking duties for the White team. Among the players joining him on the White squad will be running backs Lee Suggs and Jarrett Ferguson, receivers André Davis and Emmett Johnson, center Steve DeMasi, defensive linemen Nathaniel Adibi, Kevin Lewis and Channing Reed, linebacker Brian Welch and cornerback Larry Austin.

Davis will take care of the signal-calling job for the Maroon team. Some of the players joining the redshirt freshman on offense will be tailback Keith Burnell, receivers Ron Moody, Shawn Witten and Terrell Parham, and offensive linemen Anthony Davis and Matt Wincek. The Maroon defense will feature linemen Lamar Cobb, Jim Davis and Dan Wilkinson, cornerback Ronyell Whitaker and rover Kevin McCadam.

Head coach Frank Beamer, who has guided the Hokies to eight straight bowls, will turn the coaching duties over to his assistants. Offensive coordinator Rickey Bustle will be head coach of the White squad and defensive coordinator Bud Foster will be head coach of the Maroon team.

The game, which will consist of four eight-minute quarters, marks the end of spring practice for Tech. The Hokies are scheduled to open their 2001 football season in Blacksburg against the University of Connecticut on Sept. 1.
