BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech running back Lee Suggs has been extended, and has accepted, an invitation to become a member of the 2002 Playboy All-America team. As a member, Suggs will be flown out to Phoenix, Ariz., in May to participate in a weekend of activities, including the photo shoot with all of the All-Americans.

"This is a shock," Suggs said Monday at practice. "For them to choose me as an All-American after I missed all of last year is quite an honor. It's going to be fun going out there and hanging out with all of those great players. And to think that I'm one of them in that group is amazing."

Suggs, a senior from Roanoke, Va., missed a majority of the 2001 season after tearing his left ACL in the opener against Connecticut. He will enter the 2002 season as Tech's all-time leader in career rushing touchdowns, as well as touchdowns. He was a third-team All-America pick by the Associated Press in 2000 after rushing for 28 touchdowns and 1,207 yards.
