Piece on Beamer to air on Jefferson Pilot summer series in mid-August
July 29, 2004

Jefferson Pilot Sports is producing a four-show summer series entitled "Aaron's Football Saturdays in the South" as part of its 2004 ACC Football Package. The series includes one show on Southern Heisman Trophy winners, a show on Southern football families, a show on Southern coaches and a wild card show that focuses on a variety of topics.

"The idea was to do a show that would lead up to the start of the season," said Jimmy Rayburn, who serves as the Vice-President and Executive Producer of Operations for Jefferson Pilot. "It's not a preview of the season. This is more of a behind-the-scenes story about Southern football, what makes it great and some of the history of it."

The show on Southern coaches will include a piece on the friendship between Tech head coach Frank Beamer and Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen. Beamer and Friedgen worked under Bobby Ross at The Citadel and remain close friends. In fact, both of them own lakefront properties next to each other in Georgia and most of the footage shot for the piece was shot in Georgia.

This particular episode can be seen on WDBJ in Roanoke on Aug. 14 starting at noon. It also can be seen on WWBT and WTVR in Richmond on Aug. 15th starting at 12:05 a.m.; on WJLA in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 28th at 1 p.m.; and on WKPT in the Tri-Cities area (Tenn./Va.) on Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. The stations will be airing the other three shows as well.

Using the Jefferson Pilot Sports extensive library of video footage, the entire series will re-live some of the great moments in college football. In addition, the show will feature up-close and personal interviews with the stars themselves. Some of the personalities scheduled to appear include Bo Jackson, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning, Tommy Tuberville, and David Pollack among others. Each of the hour-long programs will include five different features.

Also, various stations throughout the South and a portion of the Midwest will be showing the entire series. For a complete list of the entire schedule, please check out Jefferson Pilot's website at www.jpsports.com.
