Carroll to Undergo Surgery
Lineman to rehab 2-4 weeks
July 30, 2003

BLACKSBURG - Freshman offensive lineman Tripp Carroll will undergo surgery on his lower leg, as announced Wednesday by the Virginia Tech athletics medical staff. According to head athletic trainer Mike Goforth, Carroll has been "experiencing intense lower leg pain for the past six months. The condition has not responded to conservative treatment and will therefore require surgery to correct the problem."

The procedure Carroll (6-4, 306, Jacksonville, Fla.) will undergo will release the tissue in the painful area to relieve the pain and discomfort that he experiences during exercise. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis and will be performed by Dr. Scott Urch at Montgomery Regional Hospital. The usual rehabilitation time is 2-4 weeks and should not cause him to miss any games due to the procedure.

The Tech football team will report to Blacksburg one week from today, Aug. 6 and will hold its first practice on Thursday, Aug. 7.
