Tech website launches hokietv.com
July 8, 2003

The Virginia Tech athletics department announces the launch of a new website, hokietv.com - a streaming media website designed to deliver both live streamed events as well as archived interviews, games and popular video such as the Lane Stadium hokievision board openers.

Two major recurring events to be shown on hokietv are the Advance Auto Parts Hokie Hotline Radio show on Monday nights at 7 p.m. every week throughout the season and live coverage is Head Football Coach Frank Beamer's weekly pregame football press conference usually held on Tuesday before Saturday games.

This website is not subscriber-based. The content is free to all hokietv.com visitors with a high-speed internet connection

"There are several ways to deliver this kind of web content," said David Chambers, senior associate athletics director for external affairs. "We opted for a free delivery system to allow all users with a high-speed internet connection to view Hokie events as they happen and at their leisure after the event has concluded. Other sites require a fee to view. We prefer this system at this time."

For now, hokietv.com is offering converted archived footage from hokievision.com, the original Virginia Tech athletics video website that delivered non-streaming video content. Now, hokievision.com no longer exists.

Several press conferences were recorded live this summer and are available under the "special" section of hokietv.com. Events have occurred almost daily this summer, so hokietv.com may have new live events at any time. Check back frequently to see what's new - or coming up!
