Tech Announces Noon Kickoff Times For First Four Football Games

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced Monday that it has finalized the kickoff times for its first four football games of the 2001 season. Tech's first four games of the season - against Connecticut, Western Michigan, Rutgers and Central Florida - will all start at noon.

The Hokies' season-opener versus UConn on Sept. 1 at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field will be televised by Comcast SportsNet/DC. Comcast SportsNet/DC covers the District of Columbia and a six-state region that consists of Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

The Western Michigan game on Sept. 8 in Blacksburg will start at noon for an ESPN2 national cable telecast.

Tech's first road game of the 2001 season, at Rutgers on Sept. 22, will be an ESPN Regional/BIG EAST Game of the Week. The BIG EAST Game of the Week airs on select stations in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine and Ohio.

The Hokies return home to face UCF on Sept. 29 in a contest that will be televised by the Sunshine Network, which reaches 5.5 million homes throughout the State of Florida. Fox 21/27 in Roanoke, will air the game on tape delay at approximately 4 p.m., following its Major League Baseball playoff game. Fox 21/27 broadcasts over the air and on cable in Roanoke, Lynchburg, Danville and the New River Valley.

The Hokies' Dec. 1 game versus Miami at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field will be televised by ABC starting at 1 p.m. Kickoff times and television coverage for Tech's other contests will be announced when they become available.
