Virginia Tech Student-Athlete Reinstated
Derrius Monroe allowed to practice
August 18, 2000

BLACKSBURG, VA. - The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announces that student-athlete Derrius R. Monroe has been reinstated to practice with the football team.

Monroe was suspended from the team in February 2000, in accordance with the Virginia Tech Comprehensive Action Plan, pending resolution of a criminal charge.

The Comprehensive Action Plan governs the conduct of Virginia Tech student-athletes. The Action Plan sets forth a student-athlete's "suspension from practice and playing privileges until the charges are dropped, dismissed or otherwise resolved."

Monroe's charge was disposed of in Circuit Court earlier this month.

Pursuant to Athletics Department discretion, Monroe is indefinitely withheld from competition. Monroe is subject to continuing conduct and academic reviews by the Director of Athletics prior to any decision concerning his reinstatement for competition during the season.
