August 22, 2003

BLACKSBURG - The Butkus Award committee has released its 2003 Watch List, with two Virginia Tech football players being named to the list. The Butkus Award, named after the legendary Dick Butkus, is given annually to the top collegiate linebacker.

Mikal Baaqee, who led the Hokies in tackles last year, along with senior Vegas Robinson, are among the 90 placed on the list. Baaqee, a junior from Columbia, Md., recorded 112 tackles, including 12 for loss and 3.5 sacks. Robinson, who was the heart of the defense a year ago, missed several games with a sprained ankle, but still managed to collect 71 tackles and three interceptions. The senior from Chesapeake, Va., had offseason surgery on the ankle and is back to 100 percent.

Below is the complete list, broken down by conferences, of the candidates.
