Two-a-days nearing an end
August 23, 2001

The Virginia Tech football team takes to the field Thursday afternoon for practice and that practice will wrap up two-a-days for the Hokies. Tech will scrimmage Friday and Saturday, with Saturday's scrimmage being a script scrimmage.

The coaching staff survived a scare this morning when fullback Jarrett Ferguson was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital after complaining of pains in his side and vomiting Wednesday night. Ferguson was diagnosed with a kidney stone, which he passed. The sports medicine staff thought Ferguson had appendicitis, which would have required surgery and probably would have caused him to miss the first game, so the Hokies certainly caught a break.

Ferguson will miss the afternoon practice and will more than likely sit out the next two scrimmages. But Tech trainer Mike Goforth said Ferguson should be ready next week when the Hokies start preparations for UConn.

Anthony Davis, an offensive lineman, is the only other Hokie who is definitely out for the upcoming scrimmages. Davis has been bothered by a bad back.
