BLACKSBURG - Both Lee Corso and Chris Fowler of ESPN picked the Virginia Tech Hokies to make an appearance in the 2002 BCS National Championship Game, to be played in Pasadena, Calif., at the Rose Bowl.

"The last time I went against Virginia Tech, lightning struck my car," said Corso referring to last year's BCA Bowl where his car was struck by lightning. "I said, ÎI don't know what a Hokie is, but I'm not picking against them.' I'm going with Virginia Tech and Oregon."

Corso picked the Hokies to play against the Ducks while Fowler picked them to play against defending national champion Oklahoma. The selections were made on Thursday night's ESPN College Football Preview Show.

The ninth-ranked Hokies open the 2001 season on Sept. 1, hosting Connecticut at noon.
