Monroe not on dress squad for UConn game
August 31, 2001

Derrius Monroe, reinstated to the football team Tuesday by head coach Frank Beamer, AD Jim Weaver and university officials, was not on the dress squad list and will not dress for Saturday's game against the University of Connecticut. Monroe was suspended in January of 2000 pending resolution of a criminal charge. He was reinstated in August of 2000, but withheld from competition last season. Monroe, a partial qualifier, recently graduated with a degree in sociology enabling him to receive the year he lost as a partial qualifier, and he also filled all the court's requirements, so he received an early release from his two-year probation. All criminal charges have been dismissed.

Monroe has practiced with the team for the past three days. But after not practicing or playing for the past 19 months, Monroe figures to need extra time to get in shape. He has been working at defensive tackle thus far because of Tech's depth at defensive end, but he also figures in at end.
