Randall to start at Texas A&M
September 16, 2002

Tech head coach Frank Beamer named Bryan Randall the starting quarterback for the Hokies' game Saturday at Texas A&M - Tech's first road game of the season. Randall got his first collegiate start this past Thursday against Marshall after Grant Noel, who started the first two games, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee the previous week. Randall, a sophomore from Williamsburg, Va., completed 5-of-12 for 101 yards.

"I thought Bryan did a good job," Beamer said on the BIG EAST's weekly teleconference Monday morning. "He took care of the football. I think this is the way we need to go.

"I thought he threw the ball well. I've said this before, but we had the best week of practice [leading up to the Marshall game] throwing the ball that we'd had all season. Now we've got to protect him and our receivers have to catch it."

Randall has completed 16-of-29 for 214 yards and a touchdown on the season. He has not thrown an interception this season.
