Hokies Continue Preparation For Marshall
September 8, 2002

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech football team went through its normal Tuesday practice in preparation for Thursday night's game against Marshall. The Hokies and the Herd, both nationally ranked, will kick off at 7:45 p.m., from Lane Stadium/Worsham Field.

On the injury front, defensive end Cols Colas practiced in blue, taking a part in everything but middle drills. Colas is nursing back spasms, but is expected to go full speed on Monday, which will be a Wednesday practice for the Hokies.

Quarterback Grant Noel, who underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean up his left knee on Sept. 3, worked out with the team for about an hour. He was able to complete all of his drops and could even perform roll outs to both sides. The plan is to work him out Monday, and then to taper him back down to be ready for Thursday without an inflamed knee. He is listed as probable for the game.

Finally, defensive end Jim Davis suffered a mild injury toward the end of Sunday's practice. Davis suffered a peroneal sprain, along with a medial left ankle contusion. He was evaluated immediately by Dr. Gunnar Brolinson and placed on crutches with a DonJoy ankle walker. Davis will be re-evaluated in the morning and will get precautionary X-rays.

According to head athletic trainer Mike Goforth, the injury does not appear to be serious and Davis is expected to be ready for the Marshall game.

In other news, ESPN will have a crew in town on Monday to do a piece on "The Untouchables" - Lee Suggs and Kevin Jones -for Thursday night's pregame show. The announcing crew of Mike Tirico, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and Dr. Jerry Punch will begin arriving in town Tuesday night and will talk to the coaches and selected players prior to Wednesday's walk-through.
