JV Football Team Downs Hargrave
Mollerup boots three field goals in 23-15 win

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Jon Mollerup kicked three field goals and Terrell Parham returned a pass interception for a touchdown as Virginia Tech's jayvee football team defeated Hargrave Military Academy, 23-15, at the Frank O. Moseley Practice Field on Friday. The win improved Tech's record to 2-0, while the Tigers are now 4-3.

Mollerup (r-So. Lyndhurst, Va.) booted field goals of 46 and 37 yards to put the Hokies on top 6-0 with 8:50 remaining in the first half. Less than a minute later, Parham (r-So. Bartow, Fla.) made the score 13-0 when he picked off a Tiger pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown. Mollerup kicked the extra point.

On the ensuing kickoff, Hargrave's Wilbur Hargrove raced down the right sideline for a 93-yard touchdown return that helped cut the Hokies' lead to 13-7. Alan Stayton added the extra point. Tech responded with another scoring drive to take a 20-7 lead at the half. Fullback Ryan Angelo (r-Fr. Spring Hill, Fla.) capped the Tech drive with an 8-yard touchdown run and Mollerup added his second PAT.

Mollerup accounted for the Hokies' only points of the second half with a 25-yard field goal at the 1:02 mark of the third quarter. Hargrave added a touchdown on a 48-yard fumble return by Roger Attich with 1:27 remaining in the game. The Tigers followed the touchdown with a two-point conversion pass from quarterback Scott Dolch to tight end Andre Zellner.

Tech held Hargrave to minus-8 yards rushing and just 39 yards of total offense. The Hokies intercepted four passes - one each by Parham, Dirk Taylor (So. Penn Laird, Va.), T.J. Jackson (r-So. Delray Beach, Fla.) and Chris Shreve (Fr. Mouth of Wilson, Va.).

Tech quarterback Grant Noel completed 7 of 20 passes for 128 yards. Ronald Moody (r-Fr. Chesapeake, Va.) hauled in four of those passes for 47 yards, while Parham had three catches for 81 yards. Redshirt freshman Marvin Urquhart (Chesapeake, Va.) was the Hokies' top rusher with 58 yards on 15 carries.
