BIG EAST Places Five On Outland Trophy Watch List
Lehr, Redding make the list
October 27, 2000

Dallas - The Football Writers Association of America All-America Committee has released the nominees for the 2000 Outland Trophy.

Five standout players, including three who were All-BIG EAST a year ago, represent the conference. Miami defensive tackle Damione Lewis, offensive guard Paul Zukauskas of Boston College and Virginia Tech's Matt Lehr were all second team choices in 1999. West Virginia center Rick Gilliam and Hokie offensive guard Josh Redding join the trio on the Outland list.

The Outland Trophy Watch List will be paired down in a series of conference calls in November. Three finalists will be announced in late November and the winner will be named on Dec. 7 at the ESPN College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Fla.

The Outland Trophy has been presented annually since 1946 to the best interior lineman in college football on either side of the ball. It is the third oldest award in college football behind the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award and is named after the late Dr. John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn at the turn of the century.
