Star receiver continues to suffer from bursitis
October 27, 2000

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech wide receiver André Davis will not play in the Hokies' Saturday afternoon game against Pittsburgh at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field.

Davis continues to suffer from retrocalcaneal bursitis in his left foot, which sidelined him during the second half of last week's 22-14 victory at Syracuse. The 6-1 redshirt junior from Niskayuna, N.Y., will continue to receive treatment over the weekend and is listed as questionable for the Miami game on Nov. 4.

Davis currently leads the Hokies in receiving with 23 catches for 318 yards and two touchdowns. He also leads the Division I-A ranks in punt returns with an average of 22 yards per return.

Redshirt freshman Ernest Wilford, from Richmond, Va., will move into Davis' flanker spot and make his first collegiate start against the Panthers. Redshirt sophomore Ronyell Whitaker (Norfolk, Va.) is expected to handle punt returns.

The Tech-Pittsburgh game will be televised by CBS beginning at 3:30 p.m.
