Houseright diagnosed with torn cartilage
October 3, 2001

Tech linebacker Jake Houseright had an MRI done on his left knee Wednesday morning and the MRI revealed torn cartilage in the senior's knee. Houseright hurt his knee last Saturday in Tech's win over UCF. He is expected to go if he can play with the pain.

Regardless, senior Brian Welch will get the start against West Virginia, marking his second career start. He started against Rutgers a little over a week ago. If Houseright is unable to go, Alex Markogiannakis will be the No. 2 man at that spot.

Also, reserve tight end Mike Jackson suffered what the sports medicine staff believes is a torn ACL in his knee while covering a punt during Tuesday's practice. Jackson will have an MRI done on his knee on Friday. If he tore the ACL, he will be out for the season, joining two other players also lost for the season with torn ACLs (Lee Suggs and Deon Provitt).
