BLACKSBURG - Oliver Taylor hit Chris Baker for two long touchdown plays to lead the Hargrave post-graduate football team to a 12-6 come-from-behind victory over the Virginia Tech jayvee football team Friday afternoon at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field. With the win, Hargrave improves to 8-1 while the Hokies end their season at 1-1.

After a scoreless first quarter, Tech got on the board first thanks to a 46-yard field goal by true freshman Nic Schmitt at the 10:52 mark in the second quarter. That would be the only score of the first half as the Hokies took a 3-0 lead into the break.

Late in the third quarter, the Tigers took the lead when Taylor hooked up with Baker for a 25-yard touchdown play at the 2:19 mark. Ryan Smith's extra point attempt sailed wide left, giving Hargrave a 6-3 lead.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Taylor and Baker again connected for a big play. On third down, Taylor hit Baker in stride down the sideline and he took it the rest of the way for a 52-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, giving Hargrave at 12-3 lead with 9:50 left in the game.

Schmitt made it a one-possession game with 5:56 left when he connected on a 47-yard field to make it 12-6, but that was as close as Tech would get. Schmitt finished the day 2-for-2 on field goals and punted six times for an average of 42 yards per kick, including kicks of 51 and 52 yards.

Tech drove to Hargrave's 30-yard line with under 15 seconds left, but Will Hunt's pass was intercepted by Vaughn Mansfield in the end zone, and the Tigers ran out the clock for the victory.

Offensively, Tech was led by Mike Perlozzo, who had 14 carries for 89 yards. John Candelas carried the ball nine times for 70 yards. Hunt completed 4 of 19 passes for 30 yards with two interceptions while Chris Clifton led the way with three catches for 34 yards. Defensively, Blake Warren led the Hokies with 12 total tackles, including three for a loss. Jason Murphy had nine total stops while both Mark Costen and J.D. Zeigler had eight tackles.
