Beamers doles out praise to offensive line
November 19, 2001

With all the praise being heaped on Kevin Jones' 37-carry, 181-yard performance - and justifiably so - Tech head coach Frank Beamer made it a point on the BIG EAST's weekly teleconference to hand out accolades to the Hokies' offensive line, which played perhaps its best game of the season.

All five of Tech's started graded out at 82 percent or better, with three of those guys graded out 91 percent or better. Despite playing on a sore knee, tackle Matt Wincek graded out at 93 percent and Jake Grove graded out at 93 percent, with a team-high three knockdowns. Steve DeMasi graded out at 91 percent.

"I thought Jake Grove played great," Beamer said. "But all those guys really got after it. Kevin Jones had some cracks up there. I'm really proud of those guys and the effort they gave."

Contrary to some rumors floating around, Wincek will not have surgery performed on his knee this week. He came out of the game at UVa in good shape as far as that's concerned.
