Athletics Department Issues Apology For Ticket Distribution Problems
All student tickets are sold out
December 9, 2004

The Virginia Tech Athletics Department apologizes for the inconvenience and frustration related to the student ticket order process occurring today for the 2005 Sugar Bowl.

Despite prior assurances of a flawless electronic order process, the department's third-party ticket vendor experienced technical difficulties in accepting and processing student ticket orders.

The technical glitch, a faulty link provide by the vendor, caused a slow-down in the system and resulted in the department having to suspend the order process at 10:15 a.m.

Between 8:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. approximately 600 student-ticket orders had been confirmed. Some individuals who had already been accepted into the ticketing system were able to continue completing their order prior to the suspension of the process.

At noon, the ticket order process resumed and the remaining 2,000+ Sugar Bowl tickets were distributed by 1:15 p.m.

We have been in touch with the management of ticket vendor and we have expressed our extreme displeasure with their handling of the ticket order process today.

We know that ultimately we are accountable for the methods that we use and for those that we employ. For that, we apologize.
