December 10, 2001

STAMFORD, Conn. - The honors keep rolling in for Virginia Tech senior wide receiver André Davis. In addition to his All-BIG EAST honors on the football field, he has been awarded a postgraduate scholarship and now has been named to the Verizon Academic All-America® University Division football first team, as announced Monday by the organization. It is the first such honor for the Niskayuna, N.Y., native.

Davis has already graduated with a degree in residential property management and is planning on taking graduate courses in a related field. He graduated with a 3.28 GPA. He will be presented with an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship by the National Football Foundation Wednesday in New York City.

To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his career. No athlete is eligible until he has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his institution. The Academic All-America program, celebrating its 50th anniversary, was created in 1952 by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
