Hokies Picked to Win Coastal Division by Media
Florida State the favorite in Atlantic Division

HOT SPRINGS, Va. - The Virginia Tech football team will enter the 2005 season as the favorite to win the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference, as chosen by the media members who cover the conference. The preseason poll was released Monday afternoon at the ACC Football Kickoff, taking place at The Homestead Resort.

With the addition of Boston College to the league, the 12 teams will be split up into two divisions of six schools each. Virginia Tech will compete in the Coastal Division with Virginia, Miami, North Carolina, Duke and Georgia Tech. The Atlantic Division consists of Florida State, North Carolina State, Clemson, Maryland, Boston College and Wake Forest.

The Hokies received 62 first-place votes, tallying 517 points. Miami was picked second, followed by Virginia, Georgia Tech, UNC and Duke, respectively. Florida State was picked to win the Atlantic Division, tallying 65 first-place votes and 522 points. Boston College, NC State, Clemson, Maryland and Wake Forest followed.

Virginia Tech opens preseason camp on Friday, Aug. 5 before opening the season on Sunday, Sept. 4 against NCSU at Carter-Finley Stadium in a 7:15 p.m., game that will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
