League-leading nine total make first or second team, one makes honorable mention
November 28, 2005

BLACKSBURG - Less than a week after clinching the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division championship, the individual honors have started rolling in for members of the Virginia Tech football team as the All-ACC teams were announced Monday. Five Hokies were named to the first team, while four were named to the second team. In addition, one other was named honorable mention. The nine members of the first- or second-team marked a league high for this season.

Junior quarterback Marcus Vick leads the way on the first team, picking up 118 points. Also earning first-team honors are defensive lineman Darryl Tapp, defensive back Jimmy Williams, offensive guard Jason Murphy and center Will Montgomery. For Tapp and Williams, it marks their second first-team honor. Montgomery was an honorbale mention selection a year ago.

Vick was a key cog in the Hokies' run to the Coastal Division title. He has completed 140-of-216 passes for 1,855 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 359 yards and four scores.

Tapp, a senior from Chesapeake, Va., was second among the linemen in votes with 123 points. He is fifth on the team in tackles with 41 and leads the team in sacks (9.0), tackles for loss (10.5) and quarterback hurries (32).

Williams, a senior from Hampton, Va., is a finalist for both the Nagurski and Thorpe Awards. He has 38 tackles, including 2.0 for loss and a sack, to go along with five pass break ups, four quarterback hurries and an interception.

Montgomery, a senior from Clifton, Va., leads the team with a 90 percent gradeout on 675 plays with 40 knockdowns. He has started all 11 games this year, playing both guard and center.

Tech also had four players make the second team: tight end Jeff King, offensive tackle Jimmy Martin, defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis and linebacker Vince Hall.

King, a senior from Pulaski, Va., has 20 receptions and a career-high five touchdowns. He made the second-team as well last year. Martin moves up from the honorable mention squad a year ago. He has started a team-high 44 straight games and has graded out at 89 percent this year with 24 knockdowns. Lewis has 33 tackles, including 6.5 for loss and 4.0 sacks, to go along with 19 quarterback hurries. Hall, a sophomore, leads the team in tackles with 96, including 7.5 for loss, and has two interceptions, a fumble recovery and two defensive touchdowns.

Making honorable mention was placekicker Brandon Pace.
