The Ted Hendricks Foundation announced Wednesday the finalists for the 2005 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award. Virginia Tech senior Darryl Tapp is one of the five to make the cut.

Commenting on the finalists, Pro Football Hall of Famer, Ted Hendricks said, "This year's vote for the finalists was very close with six outstanding defensive ends rising to the top. They all have had fine years and I can't wait to watch them through the end of their season."

The finalists include Louisville's Elvis Dumervil, Mississippi State's Willie Evans, Penn State University's Tamba Hali, Boston College's Mathias Kiwanuka, Rutgers University's Ryan Neill and Tapp.

The Hendricks Award winner will be announced during the final week of the bowl season.

Tapp, from Chesapeake, Va., was a preseason All-America pick by Athlon, following a first-team All-ACC selection a year ago. He currently has 32 tackles, including 6.0 for loss and 5.0 sacks. He also had three forced fumbles, one pass break up and a team-leading 23 quarterback hurries.
