Hokie Team Spirit Also Shows Off The Field
Tech Football Team Offering Muscle Power To The Crew Of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" On Saturday
December 9, 2005

BLACKSBURG, VA - Beamer's boys will be getting a workout this weekend, but they will not be practicing punts or tackles. This Saturday, members of Virginia Tech's football team will be working their muscles when they move furniture into the newly rebuilt home of Blacksburg's Carol Crawford-Smith and her two young boys. Crawford-Smith was selected from a pool of thousands of applicants by ABC to have their home completely remodeled by the celebrity design team of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", and the Roanoke-based general contracting company Building Specialists, Inc.

Once the house is completed on Saturday, the celebrated football team, ranked number 12 in the country, will volunteer their brute strength to haul everything from sofas and beds to washing machines and refrigerators into the brand new custom home. Though the teammates will be passing boxes instead of footballs, the exercise will no doubt help reinforce team spirit among Gator Bowl-bound players.

Though perhaps the most recognizable, Virginia Tech's football team is just one group of many from the local university that are lending their time and efforts to this project. Hundreds of students, staff, and faculty members have already made their presence known on the set, volunteering manual labor as well as design and construction expertise.

Each episode of ABC's Emmy-winning series is a race against the clock to completely transform an entire house-inside and out-in just one week. By compressing nearly six month's work into one week's time, designers, contractors, and hundreds of volunteers have been working around the clock to help make the family's dream home a reality.

The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington, as well as Paul DiMeo, Preston Sharp, Paige Hemmis, and Daniel Kucan. The episode, called "Crawford-Smith Family", is scheduled to air during the winter of 2006.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman. The show airs Sundays (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.
