Additional Preseason Accolades Handed Out

BLACKSBURG - In addition to the preseason honors written about earlier in the summer, several additional honors have been released recognizing Virginia Tech football players.

Junior linebacker Vince Hall has been named a second-team preseason All-American by, as announced Thursday. The Chesapeake, Va., native has already been named to the Bronko Nagurski Award, Bednarik Award and Lott Trophy Watch Lists and is ranked the No. 5 inside linebacker in the country by The Sporting News.

Junior defensive end Chris Ellis has been named to the Ted Hendricks Award Watch List, which goes to the nation's top defensive end. The Hampton, Va., native has already been listed as the No. 18 defensive end in the country by Lindy's.

Finally, senior punter Nic Schmitt has been named one of six players on the preseason Ray Guy Award, which goes to the nation's top collegiate punter. The preseason list is comprised of the top non-graduating finalists from the previous year. The list will be expanded once the season begins. Schmitt was named a preseason All-American by Playboy earlier in the summer.
