August 23, 2006

BLACKSBURG - Three Virginia Tech football players have been added to the Watch List for the 37th Rotary Lombardi Award, as announced by the Rotary Club of Houston. Linebackers Vince Hall and Xavier Adibi, along with defensive end Chris Ellis have all been added as potential winners of the award, which honors the top college football lineman.

Any player who meets the basic award criteria (a down lineman on either side of the ball-including tight ends, and linebackers who line up within five yards of the ball) is eligible to receive votes.

Former Hokie Corey Moore won this award following the 1999 season. Ohio State's A.J. Hawk won the award last year.

Virginia Tech, ranked 16th in the Coaches' Poll and 17th in the AP Poll, opens the season on Sept. 2, hosting Northeastern University in a 1:30 p.m., game at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field. The contest will be available on ESPN360, an internet-only broadcast. The game will not be on television live in any form, but will be available on Hokie Playback on a tape-delayed basis.
