Hokies, ISP add Charlotte's WJZY-TV to television network
August 3, 2006

The Virginia Tech Athletics Department and ISP Sports announced today that WJZY-TV in Charlotte has joined the ISP Sports Television Network and will broadcast Virginia Tech Sports Today beginning this season.

WJZY-TV, Channel 46, is an affiliate of the new CW network and is also the television home of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats.

"Every year, the range and coverage of Virginia Tech Sports Today gets bigger and better and we're happy to expand to Charlotte this season," Tech football coach Frank Beamer said. "It helps us in terms of our exposure and our recruiting."

Virginia Tech Sports Today will be shown in Charlotte every Sunday at 10 a.m. starting August 20th, continuing through December.

"Virginia Tech has always had a big following in Charlotte," said WJZY's Don Travis. "You see an awful lot of orange and maroon down here. Plus, all the new ACC rivalries just make it bigger and better."

"We've got thousands of alumni and fans who make the two-and-a-half hour drive to Blacksburg religiously," said Perry Clark, former Hokie Club President. "It's another way we can get Virginia Tech exposure here in the Charlotte metro."

"The presence of Virginia Tech alumni and fans continues to grow in the Charlotte region and we are thrilled to feel more connected to Blacksburg by hearing from Coach Frank Beamer every week," said Sarah Yarbrough, current President of the Charlotte Hokie Club.

Virginia Tech Sports Today can be seen on stations throughout the mid-Atlantic region. In addition, the show can be seen on Comcast SportsNet each week at its new time, Sundays at noon.
