BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech freshman Sergio Render has been named a first-team Freshman All-American, as announced by Rivals on Thursday.

Render stepped in at right guard from the outset, replacing graduated All-ACC player Jason Murphy. The Georgia product responded by leading the Hokies in knockdowns and helped open enough holes for Branden Ore to rush for nearly 1,100 yards. He has started all 12 games and even earned ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week after grading out at 90 percent with six knockdowns against Wake Forest.

The complete team can be found at http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?SID=1144&CID=614131

The SEC has 14 players across both teams, and the ACC has 13. There are 56 players who achieved Rivals.com Freshman All-America status.
