Hall, Ore honored as tops in the state
Eleven Hokies named to all-state team

BLACKSBURG - Eleven different Virginia Tech football players have been honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID), being named to the All-State Division I Football Team.

Sophomore Branden Ore was named the state offensive player of the year after rushing for 1,095 yards. James Madison linebacker Akeem Jordan was named the state defensive player of the year while Virginia freshman defensive lineman Jeffrey Fitzgerald was named the state rookie of the year. Hampton coach Joe Taylor took home coach of the year honors.

Earning first-team all-state honors from Tech were: Ore and tackle Duane Brown on offense, linebacker Vince Hall and defensive back Brandon Flowers on defense, as well as punter Nic Schmitt and placekicker Brandon Pace on special teams. Earning second-team honors were: center Danny McGrath, defensive lineman Barry Booker, defensive lineman Noland Burchette, linebacker Xavier Adibi and defensive back Victor Harris.

Also, on Thursday, Ore was named the state's Division I State Offensive Player of the Year, while Hall was named the Division I State Defensive Player of the Year by The Roanoke Times.
