Roth named Virginia Sportscaster of the Year for Seventh Time

Bill Roth, play-by-play broadcaster for football and men's basketball on the Virginia Tech ISP Sports Radio Network, has been named the 2006 Virginia Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Voting was conducted by writers and broadcasters throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This marks the seventh time during his career at Virginia Tech that Roth has won the honor. He received the same award in 1995,'96, '99, 2001, '02, '03 and now 2006.

Richmond Times Dispatch Sportswriter Jeff White was named Virginia's Sportswriter of the Year for 2006. Roth and White will be honored at the 48th annual National Awards Program in Salisbury, North Carolina April 30, 2007.

They'll be joined by Joe Buck of Fox Sports, who was named National Sportscaster of the Year and Rick Reilly of Sports Illustrated, the National Sportswriter of the Year.

NSSA's 2006 Hall of Fame inductees are Vern Lundquist (CBS Sports) and Dave Kindred (The Sporting News.)
